Three selected frames from the single-channel video artwork Raindrops by Le Xi, showing digitally transformed falling raindrops through variations of light, color, and movement.

Raindrops

Selected Frames from Raindrops

Raindrops is a single-channel video artwork that weaves atmospheric chance, gravitational force, and digital technology. The work stems from the artist's spontaneous response during a prolonged rainy season—conceiving Earth's gravity as an invisible paintbrush through which the act of painting naturally occurs at the moment of rainfall.

Capturing raindrops hitting the ground, the video deconstructs the movement of water on a frame-by-frame, pixel level. By adjusting the color depth and brightness values of individual pixels, the work amplifies the kinetic energy and ripples generated at impact. Here, digital technology serves not to simulate nature, but as a perceptual medium—translating invisible gravitational forces, natural energy, and the flow of matter into visible spatial tension and depth.

Raindrops reduces its visual language to gravitational trajectories, kinetic raindrops, and pixel variations. Operating within a restrained framework, the video preserves the ordinary occurrence of falling rain as a quiet visual record of the collision between gravity, digital technology, and natural order.
