We Burn, We Shiver

Three selected frames from the single-channel video artwork We Burn, We Shiver by Le Xi, juxtaposing the flickering movement of a flame with the trembling motion of tree leaves through layered digital imagery.

Selected Frames from We Burn, We Shiver

We Burn, We Shiver is a single-channel video artwork incorporating mobile documentation, frame deconstruction, and dual-image superimposition. The work originates from the artist's sustained observation of micro-kinetics in nature: the surging flame and the frequency-driven shivering of leaves.

Using a smartphone to record these two independent natural movements, Le Xi decomposes, aligns, and superimposes their frame sequences within a digital interface. Here, digital technology functions as a means of reorganizing motion: through frame-by-frame counterpoint and layer interweaving, the trembling margins of the leaves and the fluid contours of the fire invade one another, generating a visual correspondence that does not directly exist in reality. Grounded in raw natural documentation, the work weaves together two distinct kinetic frequencies, bringing disparate natural phenomena into a shared visual space.

We Burn, We Shiver reduces its visual language to kinetic frequencies, light flickering, frame overlays, and duration. Resisting fixed interpretation, the artwork invites viewers to engage in sustained observation, watching how two natural movements influence, coincide, and diverge within the fluid interplay of overlapping dual rhythms.
