Water Flows in Fish
Selected Frames from Water Flows in Fish
Water Flows in Fish is a single-channel video artwork created during a period of prolonged isolation. Set within a stainless-steel kitchen sink, the work transforms the ordinary act of washing a fish into a sustained observation of form, light, and perception.
Using a smartphone to record water moving across the fish, Le Xi treats the outline of the fish as a dynamic visual mask and framework—a fluid interface receiving water, light, and ambient changes. Here, the fish operates both as the subject of observation and as the generative medium of the image. As water and time flow, the concrete form of the fish gradually yields to an unstable visual apparition, allowing perception to oscillate between physical matter and digital image.
Water Flows in Fish translates a singular daily ritual into a continuous visual process. Resisting fixed interpretation, the artwork invites viewers to engage in sustained observation, experiencing the softness and coldness, dissolution and transformation within micro-moments of everyday life.
