Under the Sun

Selected Frames from Under the Sun

Under the Sun is a single-channel video artwork exploring light, the passage of time, and the dissolution of self-boundaries. Originating from the artist’s sustained observation of sunlight, water ripples, and his own reflection by a swimming pool, the work transforms everyday optical phenomena into a somatic practice on existence and the sublime.

Unable to look directly at the sun, the artist turns toward the pool water, adopting the water’s refraction and movement as a mediating interface for viewing. Within the light rhythms disrupted by undulating ripples, the physical outline of the body is deconstructed into a fluid, impermanent shadow. The kinetic motion of water supplants solid physical form, while the flickering light becomes a boundary connecting the internal state to the external world.

Under the Sun is not concerned with documenting a natural phenomenon, but rather serves as a meditation on selfhood and time. Through an acute awareness of light's immateriality and impermanence, the work blurs the line between substance and void, capturing a transcendent moment beyond physical temporality amid the flow of time.
