The Union of Self and Objects

The Union of Self and Objects is a video artwork combining physical objects, stop-motion animation, and bodily movement. The work began with Le Xi's collection of personal objects accumulated over twenty years, including old phones, electronic accessories, books, and everyday tools. Once used and carried by the body, these objects have gradually been replaced or discarded, while retaining traces of a changing relationship between the body, daily life, and technology.

Using a smartphone, Le Xi arranges and moves the objects frame by frame, transforming their physical positions into a sequence of digital images. The objects shift, gather, separate, and reconfigure themselves through the animation, creating a parallel between the movement of things and the artist's own bodily gestures. Objects from different periods of life are brought into a continuous field of movement, where physical weight and digital image coexist.

Rather than assigning fixed meanings to the objects, The Union of Self and Objects focuses on their movement, arrangement, repetition, and duration. Through the gradual transformation of physical things into digital sequences, the work observes how objects, bodies, and lived experience change over time, leaving the relationship between material presence and digital representation open.
