Organ
Selected Frames from Organ
Organ is a hybrid media installation incorporating a readymade sculpture and moving images. Originating from a ubiquitous traffic cone found in everyday public space, the artwork places its original functions of obstruction, division, and warning into a different spatial relationship.
The artist fixes the traffic cone within the projection beam, transforming an industrial object designed to demarcate external space into an interface where light and image converse. As the physical mass obstructs the light, it generates a negative spatial field autonomous from the object itself. Digital animations inhabit this space, engaging the rigid, static industrial structure in a dialogue with slow, continuous movement.
Rather than focusing on the practical utility of the traffic cone, the work asks: When an object with a defined function is redefined by light, what else might it become? Situated between substance and shadow, obstruction and fluidity, stasis and motion, the familiar object detaches from its established mode of recognition, acquiring a strange, almost organic state.
Foregoing fixed narratives or symbolic equivalences, Organ allows this transformation to remain in process. An object built to regulate external space appears, between light and shadow, to belong to another dimension entirely; whether this space gestures toward the somatic body, the environment, or an unnamable internal condition is left open to the act of viewing itself.
