Jumping into James’s blue

Jumping into James’s Blue is a single-channel silent video that investigates the dynamic friction between the body, the camera, and the artwork in the age of smartphone mediation.
In James Turrell’s iconic light installations, traditional viewing etiquette demands silence, contemplation, and reverence. In this work, however, the artist treats the smartphone as an extended physical organ, transforming Turrell’s glowing blue geometric projection into a physical aperture for direct body invasion.
Stripped of narrative context, the frame captures only a bright blue beam piercing the darkness and the physical trajectory of an arm reaching, stretching, and collapsing within the light. The work translates passive art appreciation into a blunt, performative intervention: art is no longer a static altar for distant reverence, but an active testing ground launched into with body and camera.
